Gary Gasowski's relationship with art began at a very young age while studying
with his father who was both a commercial and fine artist . Gasowski remembers
that their home in Munhall, PA was an atmosphere filled with constant creativity
and critiquing.
Gasowski began formal study at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh around
1955. The Saturday classes included instruction with pencil, crayon and pastel
media and later painting with tempera. Gasowski continued instruction through
high school with Saturday classes taught by college professors at Carnegie Tech
(now Carnegie Mellon University).
After college and medical school, Gasowski returned to Pittsburgh for postgraduate
study and became a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor society. In
early 1970 he had a one-man watercolor show in downtown Pittsburgh. He also
won an award in an art competition sponsored by u.s. Steel Corporation with a
Cityscape of Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle and the U.S. Steel Building. The painting
was hung in the building itself.
Gasowski's favorite subjects include cityscapes, birds and rural landscapes. His
works can be found in private collections in Hershey and Pittsburgh, PA; Jersey
City, NJ and Frederick, MD. Currently Gasowski is a member of the Hanover Arts
Guild and York Art Association. Over the years, his works have been accepted in
juried shows with awards for some of his watercolors.
